Yusuf / Cat Stevens - Moonshadow (Animated Short Film)

Teaser and Firecat is one of Cat Stevens' greatest albums. I love them , not because they are his, but because they are all very wonderful in their own special ways.

Back in '73 or '74, my older sister adopted three kittens.. two were brothers and she named them Teaser and FireCat. The third cat was beautiful.. completely black from his nose to his tail. She named him MoonShadow. I was just 4 or 5 back then.. grew up from the earliest age listening her playing Cat Stevens records. I recently gave her a copy of Yusuf's CD Another Cup. She didn't know that Cat returned to making music and he still sounds just like he used to. She was completely shocked, but so happy.. and she's been playing Another Cup all the time in her car.

I feel transported to a childhood memory that I always wished I dreamed.

My mom listened to him slot when I was young. She's in late stage Alzheimer's, and when I showed her this small piece of magic, she was visibly moved. I'm so gratefull!

This song brings me to tears every time i hear it. Always makes me think of my mom who passed back in 2002. She loved Cat.

This song speaks to my soul.

A treasured classic that I return to every so often for the pure joy it evokes. I love that subsequent viewings allow noticing more and more visual treats. There is just so much going on, can't take it all it the first time!! Kudos to the animators.

I was barely into high school, in my early teens, when this song was a hit. The Vietnam war was still going strong and, being Canadian, couldn’t understand why they were killing off a generation of young men in an un-winable war. Then the so called draft dodgers got smart and snuck across the border into Ontario. Many of them were my friends, my class mates, not dodgers in a war they didn’t belong in. They were guests in my home, good men, friends, their names forgotten over the many years. Every time I hear this song, it all comes back. I hope they’re living good, joyous, love filled lives instead of lying dead, in unmarked graves, in a country they didn’t know, fighting a useless battle that accomplished nothing but grief. What a waste! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

I was so happy to see this book adapted for this video. I loved this book as a child, I bought my copy off the school book mobile and had it up until 2009 when I lost everything in a storage facility.

I first recall seeing a part of this cartoon from a commercial for the Cat Stevens album.Back in the late 1990s.Anytime I hear the song on the radio it's uplifting too.

Just love this song and the animation, today is special too as its the 22nd of July that's the great man's birthday, just had to play it today.. All the very best yusuf..

As the solar eclipse is this day - the moon shadows the sun this wasn’t the perfect song for the day to post to my FB page- finding this terrific animation was a big bonus- that bit at the end as Teaser and Firecat sailing on the moon across the sun - 😊

I first saw this as part of a compilation film titled The Fantastic Animation Festival. I hadn't really discovered Cat Stevens by this time but I loved the song and the dreamy quality of the short. John Landis was considering including the song in American Werewolf in London. He was collecting songs that had some reference to the moon, but when he started listening to Moonshadow he said, "This song is about cannibalism." He passed in its inclusion . I don't understand this interpretation and all the "cannibalism" is metaphorical in nature and not to be taken literally. It's too bad he didn't realize this, but I cannot imagine where the song would be placed in a horror movie about werewolves.

Retrouver la vidéo de cette chanson me donne beaucoup de plaisir, c'est tellement plein de poésie et de pure fantaisie, çà ramène aux années de la jeune adolescence....pas toujours facile, il faut bien le dire, pour ma part en tout cas, mais la musique et les chansons étaient une des meilleures parts de cette époque-là, et Cat Stevens était vraiment un de mes chanteurs/musicien préféré, déjà un peu autre chose que ce qu'avait écouté les frères et soeur, plus âgés, qui avaient été très "rock" et "pop" assez (ou très) "hard"....ils étaient un peu surpris par mes goûts...et 50 ans après çà ne s'est pas démenti...en lisant les commentaires, je vois que pour beaucoup de gens les chansons de Cat Stevens marquent de très jolis souvenirs, de beaux moments, de jeunesse, voire enfance...c'est joli...çà donne le sourire...
